YOUTH HEALTH AND WELLNESS CONFERENCES
Dear Families,
The purpose of this letter is to introduce our Hi-Tek Development company to all of the families in the Conklin and Anzac areas. Hi-Tek Development will be coming to your community and will be facilitating a Youth Health and Wellness Conference in October. Jodie Cooper, who is the Director of Sport and Recreation at Regional Recreation Corporation, initially made connection with Hi-Tek Development.
This conversation led to her asking about providing the Anzac and Conklin communities, with an opportunity to empower, enlighten and encourage youth in the areas of health and wellness. Our group decided this was a great fit and planning commenced. Hi-Tek Development is excited about coming to your community and working with your youth, in various health and wellness capacities. On Thursday, October 24th, 2019 we will be in Anzac, working with students in grades 7-12 from the Bill Woodward School. On Friday October 25th, 2019 we will be in Conklin working with the grades 4-12 students from the Conklin Community School.
The goal of these one-day conferences is to center all the activities and discussions around wellness, sports and recreation. We want to promote physical literacy, leadership and team building skills throughout the day. Most importantly, Hi-Tek Sports will provide a fun, challenging opportunity to the youth on their professional development day. Trace Bozarth, (Rural Facility Supervisor of Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo) Hi-Tek Development and the schools are have collaborated on many occasions to provide the framework for this Youth Conference.
The students will begin their day in the classroom on the dates above. At some point in the morning, the teachers will be walking the students over to the community recreation center for the conference. At the conclusion of the conference, all the students will walk back to their classroom and be dismissed at regular dismissal time by their teachers. We would like students to be dressed in recreation type clothing as we will be doing a variety of activities throughout the day. All the students will be gifted with a conference t-shirt. (Proper gym shoes, shorts, athletic type pants and a water bottle are required.)
Lunch will be provided at the recreation facilities, and will include a variety of healthy options including; sandwiches, wraps, soups and assorted vegetables. Please feel free to pack extra snacks as needed. There will be an option for students to skate and play hockey at the conference. It will be mandatory for the hockey players to be in their full equipment; CSA approved equipment is mandatory (helmets, neck guards, etc.) For those who would like to just skate, it is mandatory to have CSA approved helmets. We would also recommend gloves and elbow pads.
